Wonders, they say, will never end. Two generating sets belonging to Ohanaeze, apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, recently got missing from the 7 Park Avenue secretariat of the body in Enugu. (Picture left shows Achuzia; down right is Ozobu)
Ohanaeze was, until lately, entangled in a leadership crisis, as two indigenes of Enugu state, Chief Nduka Eya and Prince Richard Ozobu, battled for secretary general position which the organization zoned to the state’s chapter. But through the intervention of Sullivan Chime government, the feud was resolved, with Ozobu stepping aside for Eya. Ohanaeze, in conducting her elections, rotates her offices (positions) among her Igbo member states, including the Igbo speaking people of Anioma in Delta state.
It would be recalled that Ozobu, in the course of the leadership tussle with Eya, unilaterally locked up the secretariat, changed the keys and started operating from there. Ozobu, however, relinquished the secretariat to Eya on stepping aside.
But Eya and, indeed, other executive members of Ohanaeze, on taking stock of items in the secretariat, discovered, to his chagrin, that two generating sets belonging to the body were missing.
Chief Annie Odunze, executive secretary of Ohanaeze disclosed to Eya and the other officials that, apart from the generating sets, all functional air conditioners in the secretariat were, also, taken away.
The identities of these two former officials are not hidden. They are Col. Joe Achuzia (rtd) and Prince Ozobu. The duo allegedly took away the generating sets and air-conditioners.
Achuzia, in taking away one of the generating sets, claimed to have sold it to settle legal fees owed to a lawyer by Ohanaeze.
But it was, as a matter of fact, discovered that Achuzia lied because the said legal fees had earlier been settled by Professor Chike Edozie, the traditional ruler of Asaba, Delta state. Edozie, KlinReports learnt, offset the legal fees some years ago as a free will contribution to the socio-cultural group.
Then, the second generator was allegedly taken by Prince Ozobu, and Ozobu was, also, said to have planned to remove the only deep freezer from the secretariat but for the timely intervention of an official of Chime’s government.
It is, indeed, lamentable that some so-called Igbo leaders have turned rogues. From the foregoing, the Ohanaeze generating sets and air conditioners were stolen by Achuzia and Ozobu.
Consequently, the National Executive Council (NEC) of Ohanaeze should immediately report this theft to Enugu police, with a view to prosecuting the suspects. The forceful take-over of Ohanaeze secretariat in Enugu amidst the strife was enough crime by Ozobu, yet he went further to cart away property from the secretariat. What a brigand!
In addition to prosecuting the duo of Achuzia and Ozobu for theft, KlinReports suggests their expulsion from Ohanaeze Ndigbo. For no longer are they worthy to belong to this apex Igbo body.
